Been a While // Clint & Lizzie
Elizabeth looked up from the magazine balanced in her lap, distracted by the interruption. The mug of tea she’d been cradling in her hands whilst reading was slowly put on the coffee table whilst she met Clint’s gaze.
“I’m sorry,” she said, feigning confusion as she frowned. “Who are you again? I’d like to say you look familiar as it seems you know who I am, but I’m just going to have to assume you’re another one of my adoring fans.”
After a few seconds, she broke the act with a grin. “Did you miss me, Barton?”
She licked her index finger and turned a page, knowing full well she wasn’t going to get around to actually reading the article now that Clint was here. Not that she wasn’t glad he was; she’d missed their little talks and never-ending attempts to out-do each other.
Clint rolled his eyes as Lizzie teased him, smile still firmly in place, and dropped down onto the arm of the chair she was sitting on. No one else in the tower had the same humour that she did, and Clint had found that he didn’t find anyone else quite as entertaining as he found her.
“I enjoyed the peace and quiet, actually,” he replied, winking down at her as he spoke. He was a little surprised to realise that hehadmissed her, and her sarcasm. But he wouldn’t be telling her that anytime soon.
“I hope it wasn’t too hard for you to go so long without seeing me,” he drawled instead, leaning back against the chair and nudging her leg with his foot.
